Retired General Vasco Goncalves, general secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party was one of a meeting in Lisbon among old friends of the transiting visitor.
Goncalves received the news—through a message sent by Raúl Castro, vice president of the Council of State of Cuba and read out by Reinaldo Calviac, Cuban ambassador to Portugal—that he had been awarded the Playa Girón Order on the occasion of his 80th birthday, for his anti-imperialist labors and struggle against the reactionary forces and for great feats in favor of peace and humanity’s progress.
